Area B: Modifications on Proteins

Project B06 – Molecular mechanisms of RNA methylations - Functional analysis and manipulation of RNA modifications in cell fate decisions

During the previous funding period, we made substantial contributions to decode the chemical code of histone and RNA modifications. We will now focus on the investigation of m6A in RNA and the manipulation of RNA modifications. Specifically, we will apply antibody independent m6A mapping approach in low input samples as well as epitranscriptomic editing. We will investigate the catalytic and non-catalytic functions of Mettl5 in mESCs and map m6A in rare cell populations during key cellular state transitions. Together, our in vitro and in vivo approaches will contribute to decipher the information encoded in chemical modifications of biomolecules.
