Project C03 – Oxidative lesions of modified nucleotide bases
Alkylated derivatives of cytosine, uracil and adenine important in the epigentic regulation of DNA will be synthesized in their 15N-labeled form. For all substrates pKa values will be determined employing a combined experimental/computational protocol. The ambient air oxidation of all substrates will subsequently be studied in controlled ozone-spiked environments in order to validated the initiation of the autoxidation process through this air pollutant.
